Welcome from Sallyann
I am so happy you are here and ready to help grow leaders with us. It is most valuable thing you can do and interestingly enough, you also cannot help but to grow more into a leadership yourself as you empower others.
The leadership we teach is called Thumbprint Leadership over the 60-90 minutes of programming in this Class. I encourage you to do the activities with a group of at least 3 youths. The videos and podcasts serves as some direction for you. If you are doing the activities in a classroom, please try to stick to a number no larger than 25 youths since they do tend to get out of control and excited when they realise the material is all about them becoming leaders.
A Brief History of what got me here
I first started dabbing into leadership and soft skills development of youths consistently at the age of 23. I did not know at the time this was my area of natural power and passion. I was volunteering in the US, as a young lawyer, for a program called KAPOW ( Kids and the Power of work) approved by the school board. The program, overseen by The Child Labor Committee, taught work force skills to youths in classrooms using actual professionals as the teachers ( we often forget many teachers have no experience in the business world so they are not equipped or have the experience to know all the nuances of certain business areas that inly come from real life experience). I loved everything about the program and adopted sometimes up to 3 classrooms at a time during a school year. In fact, I have had the honor of winning the volunteer of the year award many times for my work in this program.
As impactful as the program was, I started noticing a problem. Core critical soft and leadership skills were not being taught. I felt youths needed to have tap into themselves first ( understanding their strengths, what motivates them etc. etc.) before figuring out what careers might be good for them. In order to compensate, I started developing my own critical soft skills lesson plans. The kids loved my lesson plans and when the KAPOW program coordinator witnessed me teaching them in classrooms, they were made available for all the teachers across the US. Fast forward to me being in my mid 30’s and having a quarter life crisis. I had to find my courage to start over professionally and this time I chose to do what I truly love i.e. teach. I started the Growing Leaders Foundation in 2010. It’s mandate is simple….’We grow leaders!”. Our programs are run , during school hours, Parallel to the school curriculum ensuring youths gets the skills leadership, soft skills and financial literacy skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. All my material is beta tested to ensure it fits right with local dynamics of each country where it is taught. All our programs impact is measured to ensure we are hitting our goals and having successful outcomes.
I have written , tested and measured over 36 leadership and soft skills lesson plans for youth in the last 5 years. As a high growth learner and teacher, I am constantly tinkering with the materials ensuring youths are exposed to the absolute cutting edge material out there that can help them thrive as leaders.
I am so honoured to share some of my materials with you. Enjoy using these materials and here’s to you making your dent in the Universe.
